Frequently we are wondering for the need of washing fresh vegetable and fruits that we provide to our tortoises (or any other animal). While I never had doubt for such a need, and wash thoroughly fresh food prior to feeding with it, I was evident to multiple tortoise death in some facilities, and referred it to pesticide.

To demonstrate such an issue I have recorded fresh water, before and after using it to wash lettuce.

It is not hard to imagine the consequences of eating lettuce without washing the pesticide and dirt from leaf.
